William G. Walt

Walt was a long time member of IL-X until its dissolution in January 2016 when he, along with the other remaining members, joined our chapter.

Obituary

William George Walt, (Bill, aka Mr. Bill,) age 76, of Waukegan, IL passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Vista East in the company of his children. He was born in Waukegan on March 2nd, 1940 to Ambrose and Frances (née Maxeiner) and was a lifelong member of and usher at Immaculate Conception Church, recently transferring to St. Anastasia. Bill was an Illinois state champion wrestler (145 lb.) his senior year for Waukegan Township High School and member of the state championship team in 1958. He remained athletic through his lifetime, participating in snow skiing (Waukegan Ski Club,) and water skiing, volleyball, and softball.

Bill was a career printer and member of the GAICU. Bill enjoyed boating and fishing; garage "sailing" and mechanical repair projects. He was a member of the Illinois Blue Knights motorcycle club and proud Harley-Davidson owner. He volunteered repairing bicycles for the B.I.K.E.S. program at Waukegan's Holy Family Food Pantry and less officially for neighborhood children near his home. He was a regular of McDonald's Morning "Old Guys Meetings" and at The Peacock Restaurant.

Bill is the beloved father of Laura (George) Toerner and Kevin James Walt; and loving grandfather of Greta Rose Toerner, age 3. He also leaves behind his loving sister Barbara Marquardt of Haines City, FL; nephews Randy and Jon Walt; and nephews Charlie, Chris, Craig, and Tim Godsey. He will also be missed by ex-wife Carlene (Hellquist) Walt and her extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Leo and Michael; and sister Mary Godsey. The family of Bill Walt invite you to a celebration of his life at Marsh Funeral Home, Gurnee, IL on Sunday, March 20 from 1pm to 4pm; and/or an 11:00 am Funeral Mass at St. Anastasia in Waukegan on Monday, March 21, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am.
